Abelia Motors was started by Leon Schreuder in Abelia Street, Heldervue, Somerset West. The land was then developed into a Spar Shopping Centre and a Caltex Service Station, forcing Leon to move to bigger premises in Gerber Boulevard, Gant’s Centre, Strand where he is still servicing cars today.
Leon, a qualified A-Class Journeyman, has extensive experience in the motor vehicle industry, starting with Matie Motors in Stellenbosch, servicing Mazdas, then moved on to Nissan in Somerset West and later joined Ford. In 1994, he saw the need for a servicing company that serviced all models of cars including cars like Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mazda, Ford, Honda, Jeep, Landrover etc., without paying the exorbitant dealership prices. Thus Abelia Motors was established.
Leon’s real passion for cars resulted in him working as a mechanic at Killarney for 5 years as well as Drag racing himself. He also personally built cars from scratch. Through this he gained extensive knowledge of cars that no college could ever teach him.
Leon, himself, checks each car, so that he has full control over every job, and his attention to detail ensures that your car is serviced properly. A full diagnostic (with specialized diagnostic equipment) is done and all faults are then reported to the client with quotes. Leon also advises clients which faults are urgent and which one’s can wait till the next service.
Services are normally done on week days, but services on Saturdays can be done by arrangement only through prior bookings done before Wednesday of that week.
