18 years on and so much has changed yet so much has remained the same at La Cuccina, our Hout Bay Restaurant. Simply put, we are very serious about making people happy through our food. Whether you’re in our restaurant, or ordering our ready meals on-line for home, you’ll find the food we create is “real and comforting”. We use great ingredients, creating simple, layered in flavour food, that speaks to the heart. We strive to serve food to be savoured and enjoyed while perhaps bringing back memories of good home cooking. We’re particularly proud to be working with so many small, local, artisan food producers who are behind much of what we sell through our restaurant. From our local bee keepers and meat curers to cheese makers and our free range chicken and egg farmer who supplies us exclusively. There is just so much energy and passion going into the making of some first-class ingredients, and supporting local is a part of who we are and what we do. Flanked by the Hout Bay fishing harbour, the wharf, and the old Naval Heritage site (West Fort Battery 1782) and with Chapman’s Peak as a backdrop is a chocolate-box building with bright yellow walls and a red tin roof topped with a host of international flags flying in the wind. It is here, tucked away at the end of the harbour Road, perched on a jettison of rocks at the edge of the sea that you’ll get to savour what many in Africa have come to regard as the best fish and chips in town. Originally in 1951 it was a fisherman’s supply store. Fish on the Rocks was started by Mr and Mrs Broderick 30 years ago. Sitting on the fringe of a working harbour it continues to attract a loyal following. Suikerbossie has magnificent views overlooking the valley of Hout Bay with Chapman’s Peak and the bay below. Flanked on the west by Llandudno beach, with Table Mountain forming the backdrop to the Restaurant. This provides a wonderful atmosphere for your Wedding day or Function where pre-drinks and starters can be served on the lawns, while photographs are taken. Weddings and Functions are co-ordinated by owners’ David and Miki Smith, who have operated this successful Restaurant since 1990.The team is completed by Head Chef Brian Smit and the friendly front-of-house team headed-up by Manager, Ross Smith.
