The Bay Bookshop opened its doors in the Mainstream Centre in Hout Bay in 2002. The decision was influenced mainly by the shop’s wonderful view of the mountains and sea. Independent bookshops have become an endangered species in recent years because of the trend towards larger chain stores but the Bay Bookshop offers a level of personalised service and a tailored selection of stock that can only be achieved by a dedicated and experienced team. The bookshops’ founders, Steve Davies and Pierre Engel, have decades of bookselling experience between them, both in South Africa and in London.
