Midrand is situated between Centurion and Kyalami in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. The city is completely built around the N1. Midrand is home to Gallagher Estate, one of the largest conference centers in South Africa. The Mall of Africa, the largest single phase shopping mall in Africa, is also located in Midrand.

Midrand is a popular area for businesses and is home to the offices of major corporations such as Vodacom, Microsoft, Neotel and Altech Autopage.  It is also home to large-scale industries such as textiles and motor vehicles. There are various schools in the area and Midrand Graduate Institute as well as UNISA’s Graduate School of Business Leadership are located in Midrand. The Kyalami racetrack, a premier venue for motor racing in South Africa, is situated in Midrand. The well known South African Lippizanners has their home in the small holdings of Midrand. The Gautrain has a station in Midrand and there is also a small privately owned airfield that is open to the public.

Midrand is a modern and fast growing area with many businesses relocating to Midrand because of its proximity to the highway and location in the economic center of Gauteng. Due to the development of Midrand, there is now little break between the outskirts of Johannesburg and those of Pretoria.
